STAR COMMANDOS

View All Books
The immortal space saga of the STAR COMMANDOS begins anew with the long-awaited, updated and revised edition of this classic Science Fiction series.

"I appreciate very much having had the chance to read Pauline Griffin's STAR COMMANDOS. This is excellent s-f adventure, but it also contains depth in its characters and awakens in the reader a constant desire to know more of them and a concern for them. I consider this one of the best stories of its type that I have read for some time. And I hope to meet the two protagonists again in some future story. This is s-f adventure at its brightest and best."

ANDRE NORTON

Islaen Connor's unit is operating undercover on Vishnu of Brahmin investigating the possibility that the colony is illegal, unregistered and, therefore, unsupported by Federation authorities. Varn Tarl Sogan has delivered a cargo of freight to the planet. He discovers the Commandos' identity and brings warning that their cover has been blown, then actively seeks to intervene to rescue Connor. Jake Karmikel barely survives and remains on-world, while their other comrades gain their starship and try to make good their escape. Connor and Sogan escape into the wild, where they encounter various dangers and life forms, and eventually discover horde insects about to swarm in enormous numbers. Unless they, plus Karmikel, can bring warning in time to evacuate the colony or defend it, every human and animal will be devoured.

Reviews by GinnyMc (NYC) Posted on Amazon.com December 4, 2004.

Superb series start! Star Commandos 1 -- the adventure does indeed begin with two former adversaries thrown together in a survival scenario. Griffin develops superb characterization that explains in depth the motivation and personalities of Varn, the ex-War Prince, and Islaen, the commando, bringing them into a partnership to last the series and beyond. Against the backdrop of the recent Federation-Empire war, with its disparate philosophies, Griffin presents the two main characters in a newer battle to save innocent colonists from the dual threat of local predators and greedy developers. She succeeds admirably. A wonderful introduction to the series with two fine characters who keep the reader constantly engaged.
